Airtel Kenya Is Title Sponsor of 2015 Sondeka Festival

Airtel Kenya is the title sponsor of this year’s Sondeka Festival which is set to take place on 11th , 12th and 13th September 2015. The Airtel Sondeka Festival is the one event that brings together people, organisations and institutions to celebrate Kenya’s creative and innovative culture.

This being the third edition of the festival, Sondeka is the brainchild of Creatives Garage, a multi-disciplinary collective space for creatives to network, share ideas, collaborate, learn, gain market accessibility and push boundaries. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘We Are The Ones’.
Creatives (artists and innovators) are the ones championing the Creative revolution not only for wealth and job creation but also to address societal challenges.
The event will be at the Nairobi Arboretum Park and will showcase some of the best talent in innovations in ICT, Agriculture, Music, Education and Business. It will also feature dancers, musicians and DJs from around Africa and the UK. There will be workshops that will touch on dance, music, the visual arts and photography.

Featured music acts are Muthoni DQ, Fena, Octopizzo and Raoul K among many more at the festival’s two stages. The festival’s innovators include Winnie Khoi who is changing the world by conserving our environment in the form of collecting trash and turning it into artistic products and David Omondi of Hansel Robotics who is making the world a safer and easier place to live in by incorporating electronics and robotics technology and many more creative innovators as well.

In a statement, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi noted that Airtel recognises the fact that the creative industries holds great potential in terms of job creation for the youth thus its continued investment and support of events and activities in this industry.

“As a brand, Airtel promotes the power of potential both for the community in which we work in as well as internally as a company. We believe in providing the right tools and platforms for young talented Kenyans to succeed in achieving whatever is important for them as individuals and their respective communities. We are interested in continuously seeking to recognize exciting new ideas and talent that promotes solution based thinking and good storytelling. This approach is a definite fit with Airtel culture, and a direct mirror of the country’s exciting and innovative approach. We are proud to be associated with such a great initiative that looks to growing local talent and eager to ensure that these kind of initiatives remain supported,” said Adil.

Sondeka Founder Liz Kilili of Creative said; “Sondeka is an urban Kiswahili slang from the word tengeneza that means, “to create”. The name is a diamond in the rough suggesting that creativity shouldn’t be structured to means and ways but should be left to form its own roots. It is the creators and innovators of today that will form the world that we will live in tomorrow. We encourage that all that come to this event leave inspired, refreshed and ready to grow themselves as well as support the unending talent that is found at this event.”

Tickets to the Festival can be bought through Airtel Money on Ticketsasa and cost Kshs 1n500 for the season ticket (Sat-Sun), Kshs 1,000 for Saturday or Sunday and Kshs 500 for the Friday event.
