The application filed by over 100 people who were recruited in the Kenya Police previous exercise has been declined by The High Court The application was challenging the National Police Service Commission’s (NPSC) decision to hold fresh recruitment following a Presidential directive for the exercise to be done following the terrorist attack on Garissa University College.
Through lawyer Amos Magut, they claimed the NPSC’s decision to recruit new trainees while there is a pending Court of Appeal case is arbitrary and illegal.
They argued that even if the action is as a result of President Kenyatta’s directive in response to the urgent need for more police officers to enhance security in the country, the decision is highly prejudicial.
But Justice Weldon Korir declined to issue temporary orders and only certified the matter as urgent.
He directed that the sued parties — the NPSC, the Attorney-General and the National Police Service — be served with copies of the application for an inter partes hearing on Monday.
