KCSE New Approved Set books 2022-2026 for secondary schools in Kenya

Here  is a List of KCSE New Approved Set books for secondary schools in Kenya 2022-2026.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) revealed that it has completed the review of new set books that will be studied from 2022 to 2026 by seniors in High School.

In a statement shared on Thursday, January 13, 2022, KICD revealed the set books that will be tackled in high school for literature in English and Kiswahili.

For the compulsory literature set books, students will now study Fathers of Nations, which is a novel, replacing Blossoms of the Savannah.

KICD stated that for the compulsory play, learners will be reading The Samaritan by John Lara, which is replacing A Doll’s House by Henry Ibsen.

For the optional set books, learners will choose to study Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro. It will be replacing The Pearly by Jon Steinbeck.

The other optional book will be in the anthology of Short stories category, where students can pick to study A silent Song and Other Stories edited by Godwin Sundu. This is a replacement for Memories We Lost by Chris Wanjala.

For an optional play, students will study A Parliament of Owls by Adipo Sidang replacing Inheritance by David Mulwa.

KICD announced that learners will now study Bembea written by Dr Timothy Moriasi, replacing Kigogo by Pauline Kea Kyovi for their Kiswahili novel also known as Tamthilia.

For Short stories, KICD approved Mapambazuko ya Machweo na Hadithi Nyingine, replacing Tumbo Lisiloshiba na Hadithi Zingine.

The curriculum developer recommended Nguu za Jadi by Prof Clara Momanyi to replace Chozi La Heri written by Assumpta K. Matei.

This means that parents will have to buy the new set of books as schools reopen for the First Term in May 2022.

Notably, this will be the shortest term in the school calendar this year, as it is expected to last nine weeks.

Schools will be closing in the first week of March to allow for KCPE and KCSE examinations that start on March 4 and 11 respectively.

The Ministry of Education has approved literature books to be used in secondary schools between 2018 and 2022.
In a directive to school heads across the country, Pius Mutisya, the director for Quality Assurance said the new books will replace those that have been in use since 2013.
“The books for the period 2018-2023 have a running footnote on every page stating “Approved by KICD 2017 Edition” and “Kimeidhiniwa na KICD Tolep 2017” for English and Kiswahili respectively,” he said.
According to the ministry, the books have a security tag on the cover which when scratched will reveal a 16 digit pin number to ensure that only genuine books are bought.

For English, the optional set books will include.

English set books for secondary schools

• The Pearl by John Steinbeck and will be sold for Sh395 published by Bookmark Africa.

For short stories, students will have to buy:

1. Memories we Lost by Chris Wanjala published by Moran Publishers and will retail at Sh380 (2017-2021) and the Play will be:
2.  Inheritance by David Mulawa published by Longhorn, retailing at Sh370(2018-2022).
   In Kiswahili, students will read:
3. Chozi la Heri by Assumpta K. Matei published by One Planet and Media Sevices and will retail at Sh345.
   It will replace Lidagaa Kimemwozea for the duration of 2018-2022.
4. Kigogo by Pauline Kea Kyovi will retail for Sh325 between 2017-2021 and the short stories will be:
5. Tumbo Lisiloshiba na Hadithi Nyingine by Alifa Chokocho na Dumu Kayanda published by Longhorn between 2017-2021.
   It will retail at Sh420.
