The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) invites applications from qualified candidates for admission into Medical Courses training opportunities for the academic year  220/2021 as Regular trainees in our 68 campuses situated in different parts of the country. The successful candidates will join the college in March 2020 and September 2020. Application is open and the process of applications is made ONLINE with an application fee of Ksh. 2022 payable via MPESA pay bill No. 964150 following the applicants guidelines outlined on the KMTC PORTAL on the website (www.kmtc.ac.ke). Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) 2020/2021 Intake

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is the largest medical training center in Kenya founded under the Ministry of Health in 1927 with just four scholars at Kenya Institute of Administration (KIA) in Kabete. Presently, the institution is home to over 22,000 students pursuing more than 50 KMTC courses ranging from certificate, diploma and higher diplomas. Over time, MKTC has introduced newer courses to cater for the growing needs of the healthcare sector. Every year KMTC produces over 6000 medical practitioners to work in both the public and health sectors, and this is approximately 80% of the entire medical workforce in Kenya.
KMTC is located approximately 3km in the Northern part of Nairobi City with its head offices and main campus based opposite Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on a 20-acre piece of land. KMTC has thirty-six schools spread out in different locations within Kenya such as Lodwar, Kisumu, Garrisa, and Loitoiktok. All such campuses have been strategically located near a provincial or district facility to make it easier for students to undertake their clinical attachment. The institution is well endowed with qualified and experienced teachers as well as administrative personnel. Because of this, KMTC draws students from East and Central Africa nations including Sudan, Burundi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda. KMTC Courses and Qualifications

Below are some of the KMTC courses 2020/2021 as well as their respective requirements.

KMTC Certificate Courses

Certificate in Orthopaedic Plaster Technology
Minimum entry conditions for the class includes a C- in English or Kiswahili, a C- in Biology, D+ in Maths or Physics or Physical science and a D+ in any of the following subjects, Agriculture, Chemistry, Home science. The course is offered at KMTC, Nairobi and takes two years.

Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing

This course is offered at KMTC Mathari and Takes two and a Half years to complete. Entry prerequisites include a C- in English or Kiswahili and Biology or Biological Sciences and a D+ in any of these; Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
Certificate in Nursing
The minimum entry condition includes those similar to the Certificate on Psychiatric Nursing course and also takes the same time frame to complete. The course is offered at MTC colleges in Lodwar, Garissa, and Karbanet.

KMTC Diploma Courses

Basic Diploma in Environmental Health Science
This particular course is offered at several KMTC colleges in Nyeri, Nakuru, Karbanet, Kitui, Kisumu, Nairobi, Embu, Machakos, Kakamega, and Mswambeni. It takes a full-time student three years to finish the course. And minimum requirements include KCSE mean grade of C with a C in English or Kiswahili or C in any of the three sciences.
Post Basic Diploma in Food, Science, and Inspection
This KMTC Short course is only offered at KMTC branches in Nairobi on a full-time basis and takes one year to complete. Entry requirements for the course includes serving PHO’s so that they can specialize and function well in environmental health management
Post-Basic Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
This is another KMTC short course that takes one academic year to complete on a full-time basis. The course is offered at KMTC, Nairobi and entry requirements include serving PHO’s as well.
Post-Basic Diploma in Solid Waste Management
The course is offered at KMTC branch in Nairobi, takes one-year duration on a full-time basis and its entry prerequisites include serving PHOs.
In-service Diploma in EHS (regular)
This course targets Public Health Technicians (PHTs) so that it can advance them to PHOs. The course is offered in various KMTC colleges in Nakuru, Kakamega, Machakos, Nyeri, Lodwar, Karbanet, Embu and Kisumu.

In service Diploma in EHS

This course is offered only at KMTC Nairobi and includes evening classes only. Minimum entry requirements include a certificate in Environmental Health Science from KMTC
KMTC Higher Diploma Courses
Higher Diploma in Epidemiology (Parallel)
The course is offered at KMTC branches in Nairobi and Kisumu. Minimum entry requirements include Diploma holders in Public Health, Community Oral Health, Clinical Medicine, Medical Laboratory Technology, Health Records and Information and Nursing all obtained from KMTC.
Diploma in Pharmacy
The course is offered at KMTC colleges in Mombasa, Nyeri, Kisumu, Nairobi, Manza, and Nakuru. The course takes two years on a full time basis to complete with classes and practicals in the lab. Moreover, it includes a seven-month attachment in any hospital, company and community pharmacies. Minimum entry conditions include a KCSE mean grade of C plain with a C in English or Kiswahili or Chemistry or Biology or Physics and a C in either Physics, Maths or any other qualification deem fit by the academic board of the institution.
Other KMTC courses offered include Diploma in Medical Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Medical Engineering, Dental Technology, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Medical Education, and Nutrition, Diploma in Community oral health and Health Records and Information.
New KMTC Courses
KMTC in its efforts to assist the government in combating new and emerging health issues, it has introduced some new courses. These courses include

• Nurse anesthesia
• Enrolled Community Nursing
• Diploma in Health Education and Promotion
• Health Systems Management.

KMTC Intake and Admissions

KMTC is open to all parallel scholars regardless of the year they sat for their KSCE. The KMTC application for courses is strictly done online through the official website. When making applications, students are required to attach relevant academic certificates and National ID/birth certificate along with the KMTC application form. All applying students must pay a non-refundable fee of Ksh. 2022 via Mpesa.
