Sounds so straight forward, right? Wrong! I have quite a few harrowing tales of epic fails when dudes try to hit on me. Like the dude who told me he had just set a new ringtone and wanted me to call him so he can hear how it sounds (I kid you not!).
1. Approach her and introduce yourself.
Don’t be those wimps who send their friends to speak on their behalf. Wingmen are for pussies!
2. Give her a compliment.
A guy once walked up to me and told me ‘I want to rub my face on your boobs’. The fuck? Those are not the compliments I am talking about! Compliment her hair or her smile. Do not under any circumstance mention her ass or boobs. Also, don’t overdo the compliments. You want to sound sincere.
3. Pick-up lines are so 1900!
Don’t use some corny bullshit to win her over. Walk up to her like a man and state your intentions clearly.
4. Don’t ask for her number. Give her yours.
This is where business cards come in handy. I like a guy who is confident enough in himself to leave me his number instead of insisting on getting mine. When a guy asks me for my number, I feel cornered because I don’t want to be rude and at the same time I don’t want to give my number to some creep. Giving me your number lets me decide whether I want to see you again or not with no pressure.
5. Don’t linger.
Once you have given her your number, it is best to leave. Don’t be those dudes who are like, “hi, I am James. I like you. Let’s go grab some lunch”. Set up the date when she calls you. Again, you don’t want to make her feel cornered into accepting the date. Or worse, those guys, once you given them your number, want to call and make sure it’s for real! That’s so ratchet!
In summary, everything should be like this:
Hi, my name is James. I saw you from across the room and I just had to come over and tell you that you have a beautiful smile. I would love to get to know you some more so here is my card. Give me a call sometime and maybe we can get to know each other over a cup of coffee. *walks away*
