The East African Court of Justice former judge, Justice (rtd) Jackson Kasanga Mulwa, died at the Nairobi Hospital yesterday. Mr Mulwa, who is also a former Makueni MP (1969-1983), had been in hospital since January when he suffered a stroke.
He became the MP for the larger Makueni constituency, which covered today’s Makueni, Kibwezi East and West constituencies, at the age of 28. Due to his fluency in French, Mulwa was elected the chairman of the Africa, Caribbean Pacific Parliamentary Group.
He was the first judge to open the Meru High Court station and served in various others before joining the East African Court. The retired judge was the chairman of the Machakos Girls School board of governors, where he served for decades. Mulwa was also the founder of the Lukenya Group of Schools in Machakos County, where he had even started a university.
Makueni expresses condolences to his family,” Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana posted in his Facebook page. He said Mulwa would be remembered as a fearless and pro-people politician who spoke his mind during the one-party era. Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao said Mulwa mentored young politicians in Ukambani and the country at large. “On my own behalf and that of Mbooni constituents, I join his family in mourning his passing,” he said.

May his soul Rest in Peace.
