1. Robbers raid Pastor James Ng’ang’a’s Karen home

Gunmen on Friday morning raided the home of televangelist James Ng’ang’a’ in Karen and stole an unspecified amount of money.The gunmen gained entry into the house by cutting window grills at 3.30am and fired two shots in the air before stealing the money and electronics.
Lang’ata criminal investigations chief Mbogo Mwaura said police were investigating the incident.
The pastor’s wife, mother and children were in the house when the break-in happened but were not injured.

2. Court reinstates immigration officers sacked by Joseph Ole Lenku over Westgate attack

The government has been directed to reinstate 13 senior immigration officers sacked after the September 2013 Westgate terror attack, which left 67 people dead.
The civil servants were shown the door by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku after being accused of jeopardising national security by aiding illegal immigrants to get into the country.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court said the sacking of the officers was irregular.

3.Court bars TSC from making deductions for AON medical scheme

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been dragged into yet another tussle over the AON medical insurance scheme.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (Kusnet) on Wednesday filed separate urgent applications and obtained orders stopping the TSC from making deductions for the scheme.

4. Key witness in Karen land case dies

One of the key witnesses in the Sh8 billion Karen land case has died.
Former Deputy Chief Lands Registrar Geoffrey Birundi passed away last week.
Mr Birundi was the government official who did all the paperwork related to the Karen land.
He was among the senior officials mentioned in the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission report presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

 

5. Eight killed in Karatina road crash

Eight people have died in a grisly road crash involving three lorries on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.
The crash occurred at 8pm on Thursday in Kangocho, about two kilometres from Karatina Town.
Eyewitnesses said the the lorries collided head-on, killing seven people on the spot.

Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has continued with his controversial online attacks on former prime minister Raila Odinga.
Ngunyi, whose hard hitting political analysis put him at logger heads with several leaders and their supporters, maintained that Raila is holding the Luo community captive.

7.Government Denies Any Sugar Deal With Uganda

The Uganda sugar deal that as raised political temperature in the country over the lat two weeks may be nonexistent after all, according to Adan Mohammed, acting agriculture cabinet secretary.
In what may add controversy to the debate, Mohamed said that the official government position is that no sugar deal was signed between Uganda and Kenya.
The government wishes to clearly state that no trade agreement or any other deal was signed between Kenya and Uganda,” Adan is quoted by the Star Newspaper.
William Ruto, deputy president and other Jubilee big wigs have been on record defending Uhuru Kenyatta for signing the sugar deal with Uganda.

8.Murang’a Man Who Stole KSh 2.8M From A Child’s Surgery Fund Arrested

Wanjau was arrested at ABC Place Westlands after being set up by Kenyans who had been part of the fundraising of Baby Fidelis surgery.Wanjau was booked at Muthangari Police Station before the DCIO Dagoretti picked him up and booked him at Kabete Police Station. It later emerged that there is an arrest warrant against him enforced at Makuyu Police Station. The DCIO Makuyu ordered for Wanajau’s transfer to Makuyu.

9.Two Kenyans In Tanzania Hacked To Death Because Of Illicit Brew

Two Kenyans from Kilgoris, Trans Mara County were hacked to death on Tuesday night August 18, 2015 in Tanzania.
The middle-aged men had crossed to the neighbouring country for alcohol considered second generation, that has been off shelves in Kenya in recent weeks since a presidential directive for a crackdown on illicit brew.

10.Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza, sworn in for controversial third term

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza was sworn in for a controversial third term in power Thursday, the presidency said, following elections last month, weeks of protests and a failed coup.
Mr Nkurunziza took the “oath for a new term of five years”, the presidency said in a statement, in a surprise ceremony on Thursday, announced only a few hours in advance.
