Just weeks after popular dancehall sensation, Cecil, said she will be coming to Kenya, yet another big name in the Jamaican music industry – Morgan Heritage, has confirmed they will be jetting into the country.
Morgan Heritage will perform at this year’s Extravaganza on October 3 at the Nyayo National Stadium. The event, which is organized by Trueblaq and backed by Hot 96, will showcase performances by Nameless, Elani and a wide array of Kenyan talent.
The legendary Jamaican band confirmed their Kenyan tour via a tweet they sent out on their official page.
This is the siblings’ second visit to Kenya as they had previously put up quite a performance in 2009 Easter celebrations.
Gramps Morgan had earlier asked their Kenyan fans to rally the government, promoters and local radio stations to organise a concert with the band in the country.
“We are ready to come to any country in Africa we love you all and can’t wait to be in your country Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Liberia. We are so ready but you must call your local radio stations or government and local promoters in your country and the Morgan family will be there ready,” read the Facebook post.
Morgan Heritage prides itself with over 15 albums to its name, and their music career has been on since 1994.
They are renowned for hits like: Don’t Haffi Dread, Tell me How Come, Nothing To Smile About, U’ve got me.
In the run-up to the major show, the event organisers will hold concerts in the counties.
“Extravaganza is also soon to roll out to selected major counties in the country and this year we are starting with Thika for a Mini Extravaganza on the 29th of August, 2015 at the St. Patrick’s Primary School Grounds. It will feature top local talent some of whom we expect to grace the main show in October”, said Trueblaq CEO,Kevin Ombajo.
