The government has released names of approved Aviation Training Institutions in the country.
The Transport and Infrastructure Ministry and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) published only 19 institutions allowed to train students in the field.
This follows an expose by a media house alleging that Nairobi Aviation College issues fake certificates to students.
It was exposé revealed that anybody could obtain a diploma certificate, an academic transcript and a leaving certificate from the institution at an average cost of Sh3,000.
It also emerged that unqualified students were able to register for classes.
The college has since been granted an order by the High Court to begin contempt proceedings against Nation Media Group.
Unfortunately, the college is missing in the list of accredited institutions which include only East African School of Aviation, Kenya School of Flying, Ninety Nine Flying Club, Sicham Aviation College, Skylink Flight Services Limited , West Rift Aviation Limited, Capital Connect Supplies Limited and Moi University School of Aerospace and Sciences.
Others are Standard Aviation Limited, Flight Training Centre, Ninety Nine Flying School, Pro-Active Air Services, Aero-Link Training Centre, Skymax Aviation Limited, Aerosafe African Consultants, Valentine Air Services, Skyone Aviation Limited, Nairobi Flight Training and Mombasa Aviation Training Institute, which are allowed to operate mainly at Wilson Airport.
The authority said certificates issued by institutions other than the above named will not be recognised, leaving students and alumni of unapproved institutions in dilemma.
It has also called on individuals or institutions intending to procure test or operate Remotely Piloted Aircraft to seek approval from the Ministry of Defense and get authorisation from the Authority.
“It should be noted that the authorisations to operate remotely piloted aircraft will only be considered by the Authority following approvals from the ministry,” read the publication from the Authority.
