KUCCPS Cluster Points Calculation

KUCCPS Cluster Points Calculation: Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS now has a new formula for calculating cluster points to calculate your weight cluster points for university admissions in Kenya.
KUCCPS – how to you calculate your cluster points. Here is how KUCCPS calculates your weighted cluster points for university admission.
KUCCPS new Formula for Calculating Cluster Points. Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service KUCCPS, KCSE Points
The Board of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) held its 28th meeting on 17th January 2018 to discuss the 2018/2019 placement of Government-sponsored students to Universities and Colleges.
After considering the analysis of the 2017 KCSE Examination Results together with the maximum available capacities in Kenyan Universities and Colleges, the Board resolved that:
All 2017 KCSE candidates who scored a minimum aggregate grade of C+ of 46 points shall be eligible for placement to both public and private universities to pursue degree courses under Government sponsorship.
All candidates who scored a minimum mean grade of C – of 32 points shall be eligible for placement to pursue diploma courses offered in tertiary institutions.
All candidates who scored a mean grade of D of 18 points and above shall be eligible for placement to craft certificate courses offered in tertiary institutions.

Calculating the Weighted Cluster Point

The following formula is used to calculate the weighted cluster point:

Where:
w = Weighted Cluster Point
c = Raw Cluster Point
a = Aggregate Cluster Point

Here is a sample of a table with precalculated Weighted Cluster Points based on the formula above.

With this table, simply match your Basic Aggregate points on the Verticle Axis and your Raw Cluster points for a given course on the Horizontal Axis and read the weighted Cluster Point at their intersection.
Please note that this might not be the same formula applied to arrive at the weighted cluster points for KCSE 2014 candidates, however, it gives an idea of how the weighted cluster method affects ones qualification for a given course.

Examples of Cut Off Points for University Admissions

To give you an idea of what to expect with this year’s cluster points, here is an example of previous points used by the University of Nairobi, JKUAT, Kenyatta University and Maseno University.
The last figure at the end of each Degree course is the Previous KCSE Cut Off Points for admission to that particular course. In other words, that figure represents the Weighted Cluster Points as discussed above.

  1. Hello,
    My name is Davis working with Tumaini Trust; an organization that sponsors students from poor economic backgrounds mainly around the Korogocho/Ngomongo slums. I would like to be informed about how to calculate cluster points for different courses offered in the public universities.

  2. I did my kcse in 2017 and got C plain.I would like doing diploma in nursing but i got the following results Eng=C+,kis=B-,Maths=C-,
    Bio=D-,Chem-D-,Hist=A-,C.R.E=B-.Kindly advice if i qualify Or which diploma course to suit in medical.

  3. Is there a problem with the application/revision portal or is it a case of end user challenges. A student with a B+ (71 Points) 2017 still does not qualify for any of the courses listed in the portal including Art courses with cut offs of as low as 28.457. How come there are no cut off points for 2017? The portal only show cut offs for up to 2016 and it does not calculate the students weights at the last column.

  4. i am in dilemma because kuccps said that students with C- and above shall be eligible for diploma courses bt I visited their site n nikaona diploma in education u must have a min grade of C+ yet n diploma plz somebody help me sielewi kuccps b real I got a C bt sija qualify for diploma in education y?

    • Hi Douglas. first I congratulate you for the grade
      you got in KCSE.for one to qualify for edu science course,He/she must have C+ in the two teaching subjects and Cplain in maths. same applies for arts related field but in maths,one should have D+ and above.

    • some courses have special requirements which may not be generalized for all the other courses. You can still consider applying for other course which you qualify
