Kenya Red Cross Society – Cross TV, an engaging, positive and progressive national general entertainment channel for young adults with the vision to expand internationally is recruiting. The Vision of Cross TV is to be the most influential platform for educating and empowering the youth to solve humanitarian issues in Kenya, in Africa and the whole world.

Established in 2017 we plan to operate a valuable portfolio of news, info and edutainment networks, significant television production operations. Cross TV is fully owned by the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Cross TV is seeking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to fill the following positions:

ENG Reporters – 6 positions

HR/CROSS/06/2018 – ENG Reporters – 6 POSITIONS
Reporting to the Managing Editor, the ENG REPORTER will be responsible for the following:
Key Responsibilities

  • Generating ideas for stories and features and following leads from news agencies, the police, the public, press conferences and other sources
  • Pitching ideas to editors
  • Researching, verifying and collating evidence and information to support a story using relevant information sources such as the internet, archives, databases, etc.
  • Selecting appropriate locations, pictures and sound and exercising editorial judgment on the best angle from which to approach a story
  • Identifying necessary resources and deploying and managing technical crews for location shoots, including camera crew
  • Providing directorial input, advising crews on what to film or record
  • Producing complete packages for broadcast
  • Preparing and presenting material for both pre-recorded and live pieces
  • Identifying potential interviewees, briefing them, preparing interview questions and conducting both live and recorded interviews
  • Collaborating with the editor to put together the completed program or item
  • Developing and maintaining local contacts and assuming a public relations role

Skills & Qualifications

  • Graduate in journalism or communications
  • 3 years of TV editor, producer or reporter position; experience in filming, editing and producing news
  • A thorough knowledge of news and current affairs in the Kenya, Africa and internationally
  • Strong writing skills, and ability to convey information in a clear, concise and conversational manner
  • Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to interact professionally and build relationships and sources
  • Ability to shoot and edit digital video
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate online search engines
  • Social Media & Multimedia experience

Online & Social Media Editor

HR/CROSS/07/2018
Reporting to the Head of Content, the Online & Social Media Editor will be responsible for the following:
Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of digital strategy of the channel
  • Lead the implementation of digital strategy
  • Analyze digital media consumption of target audience, and proactively react on trends, digital needs both in platform and content point of view
  • Ensure the extension of on-air TV contents on all digital platforms and manage online news coverage
  • Take responsibility for the news areas of the website, ensuring consistent high quality, good writing, visuals and timely uploads
  • Research and cover news stories, features, specialist interviews and other original contents
  • Originate new ideas, and propose ways how to use social media platforms to inform and to engage target audience
  • Identify and deploy influencers to interact and engage with KRCS

Required Experience and skills:

  • 3 years of online news editing
  • Graduate in journalism, communications or technology
  • Comfortable with writing, journalism and technology
  • A thorough knowledge of news and current affairs in the Kenya, Africa and internationally
  • In depth and extensive understanding of news, a good instinct for a story, knowledge of visual layout, photography and video
  • Experience and high-level interest in digital developments and trends
  • Must be able to use a web publishing software
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Strong social media skills.

TV Research & Scheduling Manager

HR/CROSS/09/2018
Reporting to the head of content, the TV research and scheduling manager will be responsible for the following:
Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze TV viewership, audience flow, target behavior of the channel; and competitors.
  • Forecast future trends and viewership.
  • Research local and international TV format trends.
  • Participate in the development of long-term program planning, including program selection, planning, timing, seasoning.
  • Manage short-term macro and micro scheduling of programs, breaks, promos.
  • Monitor actual TV ratings, audience migration.
  • Support programming, marketing and sales department.
  • Relationship with research companies.

Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of TV research experience at TV channel, media agency or Research Company.
  • Preferably 3 years of scheduling experience at TV channel.
  • Graduate in degree in psychology, economy or statistics.
  • Be able to turn market audience research data into meaningful insights.
  • Capability to execute qualitative and quantitative in-house and digital prompt researches.
  • A good working knowledge of the worldwide TV industry, TV formats and the broader media industry.
  • Strong communication, presentation skills, analytical skills and reporting skills.

 

TV Graphic & Broadcast Designer – 2 positions

Reporting to the Head of Content, the TV Graphic & Broadcast Designer will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of the new brand identity
  • Developing and designing all channel indents based on brand identity
  • Developing and to executing all program and promo designs
  • Developing graphic design set for morning show and news program; and ensure to visually convey all messages in the most innovative way
  • Extension of channel and program graphic designs to all relevant digital platforms (website, social media)
  • Researching and analyzing best design techniques and solutions to create motion graphics and effects
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge about latest graphic design techniques

 

Marketing Communications Manager

Reporting to the Head of Sales and Marketing the Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for:
Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and understand the viewing habits of target audience, and the communication activity of competitors
  • Communication planning and implementation of the television channel and all programs
  • Manage advertising and media campaigns; organize events and other BTL activities with the involvement of the appropriate agency
  • Maintain good relationship with other media owners, manage potential barter agreements
  • Manage Public Relationship and Personal Branding of celebrities
  • Develop and maintain strong digital and social media presence
  • To be involved in the development of on-air promo communication strategy
  • Support sales with B2B communication activities

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of marketing communications experience on advertiser, media owner or advertising/media agency side.
  • Business Degree with focus on marketing or communication Strong analytical ability
  • Understanding of consumer behavior and needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Relationship building and client service capability
  • Have the ability to think big and deliver innovative strategic solutions

Sales Account Executive

Reporting to the Head of Sales and Marketing the Sales Accounts Executive will be responsible for the following:
Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage inventory capacity of the television
  • Participate in the development of pricing system
  • Build and keep close relationship with clients and media agencies
  • Sell spot and non-spot advertising airtime. Prepare integrated advertising solutions for clients, including digital solutions
  • Develop and execute pre-sale strategies (e.g. agency presentations, support marketing team in B2B activities)
  • Manage post-sale activities (e.g. book and post-analyze on-air campaigns)
  • Sell advertiser funded programs
  • Participate in the generation of alternative revenues

Reporting line: Reports to Head of Sales & Marketing.
Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of TV sales experience or media agency experience in a TV buying position
  • Business Graduate with focus in sales, commerce, trade or marketing.
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills.
  • Broad existing network among agencies and advertisers.
  • Relationship building and client service capability with agencies and advertisers.
  • Knowledge of Kenyan media market, competition, current TV and digital media consumption trends

Studio Technical Operators – 6 positions

Responsibilities 

  • Reporting to the Studio Technical Supervisor, the Studio Technical Operators will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the electronic equipment used in transmission of television programs.
  • Control audio equipment to regulate volume level and quality of sound during radio and television broadcasts. Operate transmitter to broadcast radio or television programs.

Requirements

  • O Levels academic qualification with 5 years extensive work experience on the job.
  • Preferred candidate must have completed several years of apprenticeship and passed a licencing exam in order to perform the Job

 

Eng Camera Operators – 6 positions

Reporting to the Head of Production & Technology the ENG CAMERA OPERATOR will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

  • Shooting high quality vision for news and updates, as well as editing material for news presentation.
  • Live news gathering including: media conferences, interviews.
  • Working with reporters on the road.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of ENG camera operator and editing experience.
  • O levels Certification
  • Familiarity with ENG camera equipment, news gathering and editing techniques.
  • Experience in either news gathering or outside broadcasts.
  • A good understanding of audio and lighting.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Be able to multi-task.
  • Thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Comfortable with working a 7-day rotating roster.
  • Be able to travel at short notice.
  • Have a driver’s license.

 

Managing Editors – 2 positions

Reporting to the Head of Content the Managing Editor will be responsible for the following:-

Responsibilities

  • Concept development of one or two flagship news / infotainment programs of the channel
  • managing and directing the production and the editorial content of the programs
  • making decisions on editorial contents
  • organizing and supervising editors and reporters
  • controlling budget
  • leading the extension of on-air programs to online platforms

Skills & Requirements

  • 5 years of TV news editor, producer or reporter position; experience in editing and producing news; minimum 2 years of management experience preferably in a similar position in broadcast media.
  • Graduate in Business related field with specific focus in journalism or communications
  • Proven track-record at a senior-level in news and current affairs
  • A thorough knowledge of news and current affairs in the Kenya, Africa and internationally
  • Demonstrable experience of making judgments on matters of great editorial sensitivity and the ability to prioritize and interpret the key stories of the day
  • Established contacts with relevant organizations/bodies and ability to establish and maintain close links with external bodies as appropriate
  • Proven experience in managing budgets
  • Strong negotiation skills and social media skills
  • Organizational and people management skills

 

Editors – 8 positions

Reporting to the Managing Editor the Editor will be responsible for the following:
Responsibilities

  • Developing unique content ideas
  • Handling tasks of editing news packages and videos for local newscasts
  • Checking the accuracy of submitted news by reporters
  • Performing tasks of cutting and editing videos that are already in-house
  • Supervising and leading reporters
  • Editing, changing and improving the news content before broadcasting on the channels

Skills & Qualifications

  • 3 years of TV news editor, producer or reporter position; experience in editing and producing news
  • Graduate in journalism or communications
  • A thorough knowledge of news and current affairs in the Kenya, Africa and internationally
  • Experience of making judgments on matters of great editorial sensitivity and the ability to prioritize and interpret the key stories of the day
  • Comprehensive knowledge of news and video editing techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of styles and guidelines of television news editing
  • Extensive knowledge of television news editorial standards and electronic non-linear edit systems
  • Possess excellent writing, editing and communication skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Strong social media skills.
