The Kenya Medical Training College invites applications from qualified candidates for admission into Medical Courses for the academic years 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 as trainees in her campuses situated in different parts of the country.
The successful pre-service, upgrading and post-basic students will join the college in March and September 2018. All applications will be made ONLINE with an application fee of Ksh. 2022 payable via MPESA pay bill No. 964150 following the procedure outlined in the KMTC website (www.kmtc.ac.ke). Applications opened on Tuesday 14th November 2017 and close on Sunday January 28th 2018.

KMTC Courses – Kenya Medical Training College Courses Background
Situated about three kilometers on the northern side of Nairobi city, Kenya, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) headquarters and the main campus, Nairobi, stand on a 20-acre piece of land, opposite Kenyatta National Hospital, along Old Mbagathi Road.
With over 22,000 students attending more than 50 medical courses, KMTC makes the biggest single contribution to the health sector in Kenya and is currently producing more than 6000 graduates every year for both the Kenyan public and private health sectors, accounting for more than 80 percent of the hospitals’ workforce.
KMTC boasts of a highly qualified and experienced teaching and administrative staff. It has a strength of over 1,600 members of staff.
The national distribution of the KMTC College is its biggest uniqueness. With 36 constituent colleges spread throughout the country as far as Lodwar and Garissa, Loitoktok and Kisumu, the impact of the College in improving healthcare is felt in all parts of the country.
Today, you are sure to find KMTC in every corner of this country, strategically located next to a provincial or district hospitals where students go for clinical attachment.
KMTC, the only public middle level health training institution under the Ministry of Health, started in 1927 with four students at Kenya Institute of Administration (KIA), Kabete.
Today KMTC has grown tremendously, curving a niche for itself as one of the largest medical training institution in East and Central Africa and even beyond- drawing students from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan and Nigeria.
This unprecedented growth from humble beginnings to the complex college it is today is attributable to the unwavering support of the government, hard work by the dedicated staff, students’ diligence and sound management.
The wide range of our courses, from certificate to diploma to higher diploma, reflects the institution’s responsiveness to the needs of our nation.

KMTC Courses and Qualifications
KMTC Courses: Basic Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences
Minimum entry requirements: A minimum pass of C (plain) with C (plain) in English or Kiswahili or C (plain) in any three Sciences.
Course Duration: Three (3 )years on full time basis.
Where course is offered: Nairobi, Nyeri, Msambweni, Kisumu, Embu, Nakuru, Machakos Kabarnet, Kakamega and Kitui
KMTC Courses: Post-Basic Diploma in Food Science and Inspection
Course Duration: one (1) academic year on full time basis
Where course is offered: KMTC, Nairobi
Mode Of Study: full time
Entry requirements: Serving PHO’s to enable them specialize and effectively function in environmental health management
KMTC Courses: Post-Basic Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
Course duration: one (1) academic year on full time basis

Requirements: A certificate in Environmental Health Sciences from KMTC
Time: Evening
KMTC Courses: Higher Diploma in Epidemiology (parallel)
Where Course is Offered: Nairobi and Kisumu MTCs
Entry Requirements: Diploma holders in Public Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Health Records and Information, Community Oral Health and Medical Laboratory Technology from KMTC.
KMTC Courses: Diploma in Pharmacy
Minimum Entry Requirements: KCSE minimum aggregate C plain with the following specific requirements: C in English or Kiswahili and Chemistry or Physical Science and Biology, and C in any one of the following: Physics, Mathematics. OR any qualification considered equivalent by the academic board.
Where Course is Offered: Nairobi, Mombasa, Manza, Kisumu, Nakuru and Nyeri MTCs.
Course Duration:
Two years full time in class for lectures and practicals in the laboratory.
7 months attachment in hospitals, industries and community pharmacies.
Two months in class after attachment to complete the remaining course work and prepare for qualifying examinations.

Admission Requirements: Health professionals in all cadres with qualifications at basic diploma level and above. Competence in Computer application and teaching methodology is a must. Three years working experience is a must.

An average C (plain) or above. Grade C (plain) or credit in English and Biology or Biological Sciences.

The full diploma course runs for three (3) years, broken into two semesters per academic year.
Full Certificate course runs for two (2) years, broken into two semesters per academic year.

Kenya Medical Training College New Courses Introduced
KMTC has started a number of new courses to proactively help the Government fight against new and emerging health challenges. The new courses are palliative care nursing, nephrology nursing, orthopedic trauma medicine, enhanced enrolled community nursing and nurse anesthesia.
Others are health systems management (HSM) and health education and promotion.
These new courses include:

- Higher diploma course in clinical medicine (mental health and psychiatry)

KMTC Intake – Kenya Medical Training College Intake and Admissions
Selection and placement of government sponsored (regular) programs to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is done by KMTC.
Once the application process has been closed, the successful applicants will receive communication in due time.
Admission into the self sponsored category, whose intake will be March every year, will commence after completion of government-sponsored intake in September. An advertisement will be placed in the local dailies in October. Admission to the self-sponsored vacancies will be open to all qualified students, regardless of the year they sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Candidates are advised to attach legible Photostat copies of academic certificates; school leaving certificate and national identity card/birth certificate.
