Entry Requirements
Academic qualifications for diploma course
- KCSE with mean grade C (plain) in mandatory subjects; English/ Kiswahili, Biology or Biological Sciences and Chemistry. Additional subjects: C-(minus) in Physics or mathematics.
- KCSE with mean grade C (plain) in mandatory subjects; English/ Kiswahili, Biology or Biological Sciences and Physical sciences. Additional subjects: C-(minus) in Mathematics.
- KCE Div.1 or II with at least six (6) credit passes in English, Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry or Physics.

Who are the clinical medicine courses suitable for?
- The diploma program is suitable for high school graduates who have met the required minimum grades in sciences, language and mathematics.
- Higher diploma programs are suitable to clinical officers who have at least three years’ experience in clinical practice and who wish to specialize in the particular disciplines offered at the department.
Units and Exams
The course is organized in modules. Year 1, 2 and 3 have 24, 19 and 10 modules respectively. Each year has 2 semesters of 15 weeks. Examination methods include Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), written examinations and clinical assessments. Examinations are held at the end of every semester.
Mode of learning
The mode of course delivery is face-to-face contact with lecturers, facilitators and other resource persons, as well as self-directed learning. All the courses are full time programs.
Course duration
- Diploma in clinical medicine and surgery takes three academic years
- Higher Diploma programs take 12 to 18 months.
Target qualification
The basic diploma course leads to the award of Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery while the post- basic programs lead to the award of Higher Diploma of the Kenya Medical Training College.
Immediate Future plans:
- Starting short courses in various areas like Neonatology, Diabetics care, Research methodology and many others.
- Mode of learning will be distance learning, on job training, and also vocational trainings.

Need help for the September intake
need help for 2021 may intake
I had already applied for university through Kuccps and placed in University of Eldoret but my passion is nursing in kmtc unlike my previous education course. Though I’ve already applied for HELB loan, i need a help process towards my kmtc application and HELB diversion. I scored B in my KCSE last year with above C+ in all subject. Advice please.

KMTC is applied separately, it is not part of KUCCPS.
