Pepsi, the Soda manufacturing company, is the first company to enter the books of history to join the smartphone race by launching the maiden first Android device, Pepsi Phone P1.
Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Pepsi Phone P1 – one of those things is not like the other. The rumors were completely true and the soda-maker has lent its brand to a smartphone. It’s actually a surprisingly available mid-ranger that carries Pepsi’s famous logo on its back.
The phone is branded and licenced by Pepsi, but was made by Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Company LTD in China. Its China Unicom version is called Phone P1s unlike the standard version which is called Phone P1.
Pepsi Phone P1 unibody houses a 5.5″ 1080p screen (with 2.5D glass) and an octa-core MT6592 chipset. The software is called dido OS and is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The smartphone is wrapped in an aluminium body that measures 152.2 × 76.2 × 7.7mm and weight 158 grams. It features a 5.5-inch IPS 2.5D Curved display with full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, and runs Dido OS 6.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, alongside with 2GB of RAM and Mali 450 GPU.
There is a 16GB of built-in storage onboard, which is further expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card. It has a hybrid dual SIM slot that enables second SIM slot to be use as MicroSD card slot. In addition, it sports a fingerprint sensor at the back for smart security and authentication.
Sitting at the back is a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, while a 5-megapixel camera is equipped at the front for selfie. On the connectivity front, the Pepsi Phone P1s support Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi with Hotspot, 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/EDGE and GPS. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery.
As of now, Pepsi Phone P1s is strictly available for order via crowdfunding site JD.com in China. To get one, you will need to join the campaign by pledging a certain amount which ranges from CN¥ 499 ($78 USD) to CN¥ 1299 ($203 USD). First batch and second batch are already taken, which means, anyone willing to join the campaign now will need to pledge nothing less than CN¥ 699 ($109 USD) to get one.
